REPLICANT KASHY’S SHELTERS

Replicant KASHY’s shelters follow two themes: Bladerunner 2049; or the Fallout TV series, interpreting their themes and messages in a unique, and often technically complex, way.

WALLACE DISPLAY

Inspired by 2 scenes in Bladerunner 2049, Wallace Display features a spartan interior lined with honey-coloured timbers and walls. Upon entry, visitors can turn left to enter the waiting room that precedes the elevator lobby. Turning right would take them upstairs, where a small display room and a “birthing” room await. Continuing ahead, they descend beautiful timber stairs, passing preserved replicant prototypes in bright yellow liquid. They then turn left to enter a room displaying various components used to make replicants, or perhaps taken from them. Throughout all spaces, lighting is ambient, allowing surfaces to glow in an appropriately pleasing yet minimalist manner. Featured in the video MAXIMUM BLACK

DISCORDANCE

The visitor is immediately greeted by 2 sensations. The most apparent is the bright yellow that glows from gaps in a sculpted walls, along with the concentric rings of white light on the timber floor. The second sensation is of discordant music, like an orchestra tuning up before a concert. A glass ceiling panel looks down from above, with more bright yellow glowing in and from it. Either side of the room are replicant workers in tubes separated by small display tables. A solitary table in the centre displays a hand, with no explanation. Toward the back a smooth ramp takes the visitor up to the second room, this time with a glass floor and matching ceiling, the water under it reflecting off surfaces with subtle movements. The room is beautifully decorated, despite oddities such as salmon nested in their own roe. Further shelter access is available here. Featured in the video THE DRONE RACING LEAGUE

WALLACE RED AND YELLOW

The visitor arrives via the lift lobby, passing a statue to ascend a gentle ramp to the main room. Its walls feature oval timber shapes that protrude to create a 3D finish, backed by what seems like hundreds of glowing yellow spots in the wall itself. The environment is luxurious, yet remains corporately spartan and formal. A doorway at the back leads to a room that glows red from floor top ceiling, all the way up its skylight. Further on, a server room is accessible, along with a special viewing window that answers questions or asks them, depending on the visitor’s perspective. BASELINE TESTING FACILITY

Visitors pass two waiting areas promoting replicants as more human than human, and as disposable war forces, to ascend the ramp into the trophy room. Defeated enemies are represented here (rewards Replicant KASHY earned on her first attempt with substantial help), each with its own lighting theme, concealed as you’d expect. A coffered celling in turn features are lowered section, trimmed similarly on all sides, and weird sounds suggest radio interference of some sort. With few displays, the style is as spartan as you’d expect, to maintain the visitors’ focus on displayed elements. The door behind opens to an elevator lobby surrounding the Baseline Testing Room, itself inspired by Bladerunner 2049. Featured in the videos MAXIMUM BLACK and THE DRONE RACING LEAGUE

REPLICANT PRODUCTION FACILITY

Replicants don’t make themselves, much to the frustration of Niander Wallace. The replicant production facility serves as both lab and nursery, with a central sales room inspired by the one in Bladerunner 2049. Its walls share yellow and black with no subtlety, a harsh contrast for a harsh transaction. 4 labs glow green either side, with operating tables and mysterious liquids, while nurseries are separated between male and female, created according to customer requirements. All around, walls and floors are mostly stone and brick, there is a hint of something steamy in the air and, as with every Wallace structure, there is no direct lighting, just the powerful strength of bright green and yellow coming from nowhere but somehow ending up where it should be. JUNK TOWN

Inspired by Filly in the Fallout TV series, Junk Town is a mess of broken buildings and lost dreams. Nearly everything is in ruins, yet locals still run a store, operate a tavern (of course, with inventory brewed upstairs), hold entertainment events, sleep, eat, and partake in games and other distractions. Outside of their fenced area an old train carriage sits in ruins, as does a glasshouse, grain silos, a mausoleum, gas station and various other structures. Perhaps surprisingly for some visitors, the destroyed structures aren’t empty, because, well, forget about Mista Toad’s rules, why would they be? (If you visit via a best-build, they’ll all be repaired because, who knows…) *Shown in second part of the linked video

FIEND RANCH

As much as the cities are dangerous, desert areas can be more so. A destroyed highway sits cracked and overgrown, alone in its lifelessness. Nearby, a trailer serves as home, drug den and slaughterhouse to fiends, with a destroyed shed nearby, similarly overgrown. A short distance away an old military building lies in ruins, its equipment old but intact, its defenses inoperable, its radio communications system useless, overgrown with yellowed brambles amongst the radioactive waste. This picture of death is no way to live. *Shown in the first part of the linked video

VAULT-TEC VAULT

Vault-Tec built many vaults for experimentation, with largely disposable occupants. Naturally, they also built one for their most senior executives, with no such uncertainties. Originally masquerading as a sales display, it quickly evolved to become the wartime centre of a heartless corporate empire of the kind that a corrupt fundamentalist regime may, hypothetically, consider has rights extending beyond than of a constructed entity. Slogans remind the team of their hollow goal, while cryogenic chambers suspend their lives indefinitely. The strategy room simulates explosions across a large map, as well as role playing, explosions included, an invasion that results in the destruction of unwary civilians. A second room provides more cryogenic storage, along with a door to a mystery chamber, identified only as “X”. Welcome to unfettered capitalism.

CRYOGENIC STORAGE

Attached to Vault V is Vault X (officially FEX), Vault-tec’s secret cryogenic storage facility. The room sits in lonely darkness, row after row of occupants identified by code. The revelation soon hits that many of the species found in Appalachia were bred, rather than evolving due to radioactive mutations as was thought. Every chamber is sequenced, glowing dark green and bright blue, unrelenting in the coldness they emanate. Computers monitor the environment, as turrets protect it - whether from intruders or rogue escapees is uncertain. Brave PA Boys turn on their lights when visiting, turning dark into spooky glare. Well done, tough guys.

OVERGROWN LOBBY

A lobby area has become colourfully overgrown through neglect, and is much nicer for it. Plants protrude from almost everywhere, including partly hiding doorways and some basic facilities, and completely covering the onsen. Despite that, all colour-coded doorways and resources are fully usable, so long as visitors don’t mind a hot tub experience that may include leaves up their nose. The workshop out back is even more overgrown, yet still completely usable. As you’d expect, lighting is concealed, using distinct colour themes and shadows to create a pleasing atmosphere. As with all basements, Replicant’s is both interesting to visit and perfectly functional as a workshop, buff and shelter access zone.
