LITTLE KASHY’S SHELTERS

Growing up alone in darkness does not make for an ideal childhood. In the process of surviving, there is a risk that such a person may learn to see life, and the very nature of reality itself, a little differently.

LITTLE KASHY’s CAVE

Little KASHY’s Cave was her home for 10 years. Amongst the rocks that have intruded upon fairground structures, she lives in a world of her own invention with her inanimate friends. Her diet is meagre, and the occasional visitor, well, let’s just say they weren’t welcomed. Throughout, there are signs that Little KASHY knows that not all is right with her, switching between euphoric love, violence and doubt. The shelter build’s concept was to create an environment of unease, an environment of innocence corrupted, punctuated by uncomfortable messages and structures that have also been corrupted. This shelter has been used in multiple episodes of Little KASHY’s Story to convey those feelings. Also featured in the videos RELAPSE and THE DARK SIDE

THE PRISON

The Prison was conceived as an adjunct to the CAMP KASHYZKABAN (shown together in the video below). Heads wobble from the floor in the lower level, alongside unkempt grass and access to other shelters. Upstairs are rooms she appears to have set up for sleeping, eating, experiments, along with cells for LOST and other apparently random creatures and things. Mist randomly appears throughout, as do mysterious glows that re-shade surfaces. *Note - Video inside shots only are from this shelter

THE CELLAR

The Cellar was designed as a single-path maze of stone walls and hanging vines that takes visitors past visual experiences and through some interactive ones that deliver bangs and fizzes harmlessly. Blood-red light emanates from a drain in the centre, while the drain at the back is bathed in green, both without apparent source. Each turn reveals a new wonder, finally leading to a small dead-end with integrated shelter accesses for exploration to continue seamlessly.

SIGGY’S CAVE

Decorated with countless skulls and mysterious light decorating its rock walls, Siggy’s Cave identifies her as a cultist. A modest room in the middle serves as a place for private worship, apparently of the Mothmanwoman and the chems she is similarly addicted to. A sermon area sits to one side, close to a room with tortured souls and a shack that seems uncomfortably like a containment cell. At the other end, a similar shack provides a comfortable place for Siggy to sleep. If it wasn’t horrible, it would be nice. Featured in the videos THE DARK SIDE and SIGGY

BONEY MANS BASEMENT

Workshops, shelter accesses and buff areas can create clutter, compromise concepts, and tie up build budget above ground, so it made sense to Little KASHY to place them all in a convenient basement, as all other sisters have done. Hers is made up of many small rooms

THE FIREHOUSE

The Firehouse is based on the concept of a naive girl who always feels cold wanting to feel warm for a chance, and of course overdoing it. Fires range inside and out, making every window, wall and floor flicker and glow. It feels hot just to visit. As a dream, it is a fantasy, full of teddy bears, strange decorations and a twisted idea of what a cosy and warm guest bedroom might be. There is a strange room for a purpose that is unclear but doesn’t feel good, and a large room behind that serves as a strange way to access shelters. It’s all a bit weird, so entirely expected of her.

THE SEMM-A-TARY

The Semm-a-tary is as dark in concept and execution as you’d expect from Little KASHY, with an overgrown graveyard behind a high fence ahead, and a small church to the left. The graveyard sweats in its own red mist, containing many little things for the avid explorer to discover. The church features mysterious twin red lights in each small round window up high on both sides, while alternating hints of yellow and blue reflect off small floor pillars. An unsettling workroom of some sort, perhaps for drawing useful ingredients from corpses, sits to one side, with glowing yellow skeletons on the walls and at the end a series of small floor-mounted contraptions that seem to emit sparks. An ante-room leads to various shelter entrances. The Semm-a-tary is partially shown in the second part of the video “The Unresting Place”

KASHY KUTS

A “butcher-shop” sits ahead of a, err, “preparation area”. For hygiene, floors are concrete so can be washed down easily to clean up, the, umm, consequences of helping unhappy animals find new homes, as she sees it. There is a hatchery, a waiting area, a very full cold room, a pickling room and a hot and breezy smoking room (in which smoking isn’t allowed). The shop itself has a variety of items for sale, and there is a wholesale arm as well, which seems to include the sale of arms, and legs, and all sorts of … meat products.
