RECORDED IN FALLOUT 76

VIDEOS

2024 Fallout 76 Music Videos showed a continued shift to more coherent storytelling and improved technical skills, to finally get close to the level I had been aspiring to. Nothing was ever “left on the table” in any set or production, with each being the best I could do to tell the story at that moment of time. 2024 also saw a greater shift toward videos that used multiple locations to tell their stories, so that camps and shelters more often became “sets”, and videos that primarily showed a camp needed to have a strong storytelling theme and special editing effects. At this stage, my boredom with the idea of showcase videos had peaked.

Sometimes we hear songs that resonate more deeply than others. Sometimes they tell us their stories, and sometimes they help us to tell our own. When I first made showcase videos in Fallout 76, I was left cold by the music being a “filler” rather than a vital part of the experience. There was no point to the video other than record or share an achievement, no reason to go back to it. So when I heard some songs that spoke to my soul, I wanted to explore and share those messages and feelings. Fallout 76 was simply the avenue to do that. Since then, my music videos have stretched from at the one end creating a mood upon which to place a build, to being self-contained stories that use builds as no more than recording sets. Of course, there is plenty in-between too, with liberal use of mods and effects if they are helpful. Sometimes they are happy and fun, sometimes they have a more emotional edge, but either way I hope you enjoy watching them as much as I enjoy making them.

MUSIC IS HUMANITY

Music is a “whole-of-brain” emotional experience. Music has connected people before our ancestors were physically capable of spoken language, combining percussive rhythms with humming, chanting and movement for an engaging brain-and-body social experience. Quite literally, we evolved to engage with rhythmic movement and the flows of melody and volume. Even if some people find singing or dance clumsy, it is in our genes to be deeply engaged by music and rhythmic movement.
